Canadian Journal for Irish Studies
Revue canadienne d’études irlandaises

The Canadian Journal of Irish Studies / Revue canadienne d’études irlandaises publishes articles, book reviews, “Profiles of Irish Canadians,” and new poetry and fiction of interest to the Irish Studies community in Canada. We have a special interest in Irish-Canadian topics. We publish material in English, French, and Irish.

All material should be original work, and should not have been previously published elsewhere, or under consideration anywhere else. Of course we expect the highest scholarly standards. We are also, however, looking for clear writing, interesting ideas, and a bare minimum of academic or disciplinary jargon. Our readership is comprised of academics from many disciplines, and we also enjoy a substantial non-academic readership. Authors are asked to keep this closely in mind when submitting work.

We generally publish new fiction and poetry on an invitational basis only.

Those interested in contributing a “Profile of Irish Canadians” should contact the editor of that section, Kevin James (University of Guelph), at kjames@uoguelph.ca. “Profiles of Irish Canadians” are generally between 1500-2000 words.

Those interested in contributing to the Book Reviews section should contact the Editor, Jerry White at jerry.white@ualberta.ca. Book reviews are generally between 500-1000 words.

Articles should be submitted to the Editor: in triplicate if submitting on paper, or via email as an attached file, preferably in MS Word for Windows. They should generally be between 5000-8000 words, and prepared according to the guidelines in the MLA Handbook or The Canadian Style.

Articles will generally be forwarded to an Associate Editor responsible for a particular discipline. That Associate Editor will both evaluate the article and seek another opinion. The final decision on publication will be taken by the Editor and Associate Editor. We try to come to a decision about publication within 90 days.

Articles should be submitted to:
